5 emotions that can make people overeat

Well, many emotions can lead to over-eating in people. The reason that the term comfort food exists is that food can be comforting and provides relief from certain emotions that people often deal with. And this gives birth to overeating.
Sadness and Loneliness
Many times people who are going through extreme sad emotions or are lonely most of the time, find it hard to deal with the situation and turn towards food as an alternative to having a friend by their side. This happens quite often to people especially those living alone. Also, people going through heartbreak can be a victim of overeating as well. It is more like a way to find comfort in food when you can’t find it elsewhere.
Frustration
Frustration is another reason why people may turn towards food to comfort themselves. Frustration can be from anything, work-related, from friends, social activities, peer pressure, people can sometimes find it hard to deal with it alone and hence, turn towards food for comfort.
Boredom
This one is quite common with kids, teenagers, and people who are on work from home or are unemployed. It’s because they try to overcome their boredom through food and snacks etc.
Fear
Fear is another emotion that most people try to combat by overeating their favourite foods or snacks. It can also cause substance abuse. Many people turn towards alcohol or drugs to overcome their fear as well. The feeling of fear can emerge from anything. It can even, simply be a fear of not being good enough in the eyes of others. The best way to avoid this fear is by getting involved with more and more people and try and see things from their shoes. You will find that most people are alike and are going through the same struggles and emotions in life.
Shame
This particular emotion can also be seen very commonly in kids. When they feel ashamed of something, they tend to move towards food, trying to forget the reason behind the feeling of shame. It is a very common thing. Also, a lot of obese people who are not thinking positively about their bodies, end up giving in to eating, to comfort themselves and feel better about themselves.
These are some common emotions that lead people to overeat. The best way to avoid all there is to eat healthily and exercise well, follow meditation and start your day with affirmations about yourself. Surround yourself with positive uplifting people and indulge in self-care more than often.
