5 Tips to Maintain your Healthy Skin

Maintain Healthy Skin

Skin care is not only related to keeping your skin clean but also keeping your entire internal system healthy. Good skin care along with healthy lifestyle choices can help you maintain healthy skin and also prevent various skin problems.

Here are these five essential tips to maintain healthy skin:

Protect yourself from the sun: One of the most important ways to take care of your skin is to protect it from the sun. Sun exposure can cause wrinkles, age spots, and other skin problems. It is always advisable to apply sunscreen before stepping out of the house in the sun and wear protective clothing by covering your skin with tightly woven long-sleeved shirts, long pants, and wide-brimmed hats.

Do not Smoke: Smoking makes your skin look older and contributes to wrinkles. It narrows the tiny blood vessels in the outermost layers of skin, which decreases blood flow and makes skin paler. This also depletes the skin of oxygen and nutrients that are important to skin health. It also damages collagen and elastin — the fibers that give your skin strength and elasticity.

Treat your skin gently: Hot water and long showers can remove oils from your skin. It is good to limit bath time and avoid strong soaps which can strip oil from your skin. Also, gently pat or blot your skin dry with a towel so that some moisture remains on your skin. While shaving, always apply shaving cream, lotion or gel to lubricate your skin, and always use a moisturizer that fits your skin type.

Eat a healthy diet:  A healthy diet can help you look and feel your best. Eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins. Keep your skin hydrated by drinking lots of water. You should aim at drinking 8-10 glasses of water every day. Water helps you remove unwanted acids from your body which purifies it and provides glowing and clear skin.

Manage Stress: Stress can make your skin more sensitive and trigger acne breakouts and other skin problems. To maintain healthy skin along with a healthy state of mind, take steps to manage your stress. Get enough sleep, set reasonable limits, scale back your to-do list and make time to do the things you enjoy.
