Be your own Valentine

Women do all they can to look their best for their husbands or partners on Valentine day. Getting new clothes, jewelry, and makeup, to get the perfect photographs for sharing on social media.

The popular procedures are rhinoplasty and facelift, as these improve the facial profile for better photographs. Facial rejuvenation procedures like chemical peels, PRP therapy, botox injections and fat transfer are the non surgical procedures that are increasingly in demand. The popular procedures are:

Facelift – As you age, your face sags and looses volume.A facelift can reduce sagging skin on the face and neck, helping these areas to appear firmer and fresher. Your bone structure, heredity and skin texture all play a role in how many “years” a facelift can “remove” and, to some extent, influence how long will it last. This surgery can be done under local of general anaesthesia. This surgery is done on one side at a time, through incisions that are placed in the hairline, in front of or partially within the ears as well as behind the ears. The incisions are designed to keep the resultant scars as invisible as possible. If needed, tightening of sagging muscles is also performed. The skin is then redraped and excess removed. Most of the scars will be well hidden within the hairline or within the normal lines and creases around the ears.It improve the facial profile for better photographs.

Chemical Peels – Fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth and the eyes and on the forehead and cheek areas may be improved with a wide range of treatments. For enhancing the overall texture and appearance of the skin, there are gels, creams, and lotions, including Retin-A and products containing alpha-hydroxy acids, which may be prescribed for at home use. Chemical peels of varying types and strengths can be applied in your surgeon’s office or operating facility. An acid solution is applied to the entire face or to specific areas to peel away the skin’s top layers. Dermabrasion- a procedure in which a high-speed rotary wheel, similar to fine-grained sandpaper, is used to abrade the skin- sometimes is recommended for extensive sun damage, wrinkling or pockmarks. Skin resurfacing using a variety of lasers is another popular technique to reduce wrinkles, improve skin texture and achieve some degree of skin tightening. It costs around Rs 5,000.

PRP Therapy- As we age, there is loss of fat from the subcutaneous tissue below the skin. This, along with damage by sun and pollution, causes the skin to become dull with lines and wrinkles, making us look old and tired. PRP therapy, using the unique growth factors found in our blood, helps to restore the texture, tone and natural glow of the skin. This is a simple procedure and can be done in about one to two hours. Local anaesthetic cream is applied to the face (or area to be treated)  and kept for about 1 hour to numb the skin. In the meanwhile, 10-20 mls of blood is withdrawn from one of the big veins in the  hand and is centrifuged to separate the platelets and plasma from the red blood and other cells. This fluid containing the plateletand plasma is injected just under the skin using a very fine needle. It costs around Rs 20,000.

Botulinum toxin injections- This is often referred to by the product names Botox or Myobloc, are biological toxins (botulinum toxin) transformed into a therapeutic agent. Today, Botulinum is used for the treatment of frown lines, forehead furrows, “crow’s feet,” lines and wrinkles of the lower face, and even nasal muscles (to decrease nostril flaring).

These injections have proven to be a very popular nonsurgical cosmetic procedure. Aesthetic plastic surgeons have found that the type of lines and wrinkles that respond to Botox injections are those caused by the muscles – specifically those muscles that contract during facial expressions such as frowning or squinting. Botox blocks signals from the nerves to the muscles. The injected muscle can no longer contract, which causes the wrinkles to relax and soften. It costs around Rs 25,000.
