IND vs WI: India wins 1st ODI under its new captain Rohit Sharma

India Cricket team under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma won against West Indies in the first ODI at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

The Indian skipper won the toss and put the visitors to bat as Siraj opened his bowling account with a wicket of Shai Hope, the wickets followed and the West Indies were in big trouble as the Indian spinning duo of Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar were spot on with their bowling and they couldn’t handle the spin and turn which was offered by the pitch. But after the early wickets of the visitors, they made a comeback when the 8th wicket partnership between Jason Holder and Fabian Allen put up 78 runs which helped West Indies to register 176 runs.

In the run chase, the opening partnership of Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan gave a brilliant start to the Indian innings where they scored 70 runs in the power play which was followed by a 50 by the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma. The duo was well settled but the wicket of Rohit in the 13th over by Alzarri Joseph put a break in the run rate of the innings and then a series of wickets of  Virat Kohli, Ishan Kishan, and Rishabh Pant put India on backfoot but eventually the partnership between Suryakumar Yadav and debutant Deepak Hooda helped the men in blues to win the 1st ODI of the series.

Now India will play their 2nd ODI on 9th February in Ahemdabad at Narendra Modi Stadium against West Indies.
